Sightseeing in Ibiza Town

For sightseeing in Ibiza Town the old town quarter known locally as the Dalt Vila will offer a window back to the Ibiza of yesteryear. As you walk through the cobbled streets in the ascent up to the cathedral which sits atop this fortified city which is classified as a UNESCO world heritage site you’ll take in some of the best views over the harbor and Ibiza’s new town area.

While you’re in this part of town stop by the old fishing quarter where you’ll find some of Ibiza’s best restaurants serving up fresh fish by the waters edge.

Sa Penya District and the marina

Probably the first place you’ll end up upon arriving in Ibiza Town is the Sa Penya area and the marina which sits as the natural heart of Ibiza’s new town. The marina area is awash with great boutiques for shopping (or just window shopping) and cool cafes and cocktail bars for sipping away the hours and taking in the colours and atmosphere of Ibiza’s cultural center.

It should come as no surprise that Ibiza Town also houses Ibiza’s best selection of restaurants, from romantic fine dining to authentic tapas bars. The most romantic of restaurants and most upmarket dining experiences can be found within the walls of the old town (Dalt Vila). Most restaurants here serve classic Mediterranean dishes, many with modern twists and fusions with other world cuisines.

For more classic fare in simpler surroundings head to the old fishing quarter where a number of waterfront restaurants serve daily catch cooked to perfection.

The marina area of the old town also has some culinary gems and trendy modern restaurants serving minimalist style cuisine in hip surroundings.

Nightlife and clubbing in Ibiza Town

Ibiza is the home of clubbing after all so a trip to it’s capital, Ibiza Town, wouldn’t be complete without sampling the nightlife. Unlike San Antonio which attracts more of a club 18 – 30’s crowd Ibiza Town has a more chilled out nightlife with cool cocktail bars scattered through the marina area and surrounding streets on the waterfront as well as some livelier and cheaper party bars which serve cut price strong cocktails and are good for pre-club drinks.

The casino based in the Ibiza Gran Hotel in Ibiza Town is a good place to spend the evening rubbing shoulders with the islands elite.

For later in the night their is only one superclub based in Ibiza Town now Pacha (the other, el divino, closed in 2010). Ibiza’s Pacha is the original home of the now famous clubbing brand which has clubs all over the world and a number of dance compilation CD’s to it’s name. The club is large and loud. It has several rooms playing different music and in the summer months you can catch a world famous dj playing Pacha every night of the week. Pacha is also the only of Ibiza’s super clubs which stays open all year round meaning it’s a great place to head for a night out if you’re visiting Ibiza outside of the main season or for special events like new years eve.
