Things to do in San Antonio, Ibiza

San Antonio is Ibiza’s tourist capital, made famous as the party base for clubbers on the White isle. More visitors cram into tiny San Antonio than any other Ibiza resort during the summer months. As a result you’ll find the largest concentration of hotels in Ibiza here as well as restaurants, bars, more bars and nightclubs. There’s also plenty of day time activities available to entice tourists into parting with their holiday cash so for things to do, you’ll be spoilt in San Antonio.

San Antonio is located on the West Coast of Ibiza, on the opposite side of the island to the capital Ibiza Town and the islands airport, however due to new road developments and the small size of Ibiza neither are more than a 20 minute drive away.

Beaches in San Antonio

San Antonio itself isn’t known for it’s beaches. The town does have a beach but it’s not the picturesque white sand coves you probably have in your head when thinking about Ibiza. San Antonio is however the best place from which to explore the excellent beaches dotted along the south west coastline of the island. The best way to discover the best of these is by renting a scooter or car for the day. Public transport is also available out of San Antonio, although less convenient.

To explore further afield you may also choose to hop on a short boat out of San Antonio harbor which will connect you with the most popular beaches around the island, many of which can only really be accessed efficiently from the water.

If you don’t want to stray that far from your hotel during your Ibiza holiday you can always head for San Antonio Bay which is only a short walk or drive from the centre of San Antonio and has a far larger beach with better swimming and more space to play.

Things to do with kids in San Antonio

If you’re taking the kids away on holiday to Ibiza San Antonio’s main town probably isn’t the best area for them. Although the towns perfectly safe, most activities are geared up more for the adult, party crowd and revolve primarily around alcohol and adreneline rushes.

For holidays with kids we would recommend instead staying in San Antonio bay which has some of the best budget Ibiza hotels, many of which are great for kids. From San Antonio bay you’ll have the beaches, surrounding countryside and kids play parks at your hotel doorstep and you should also find a more spacious hotel than you’d expect for the same money in San Antonio town.

Eating and drinking in San Antonio

Although San Antonio is known more for it’s drinking scene than eating, you can find good restaurants here, serving reasonably priced Spanish, English and Mexican food in particular. Most restaurants are scattered along the waterfront and harbour area and aren’t hard to find. Don’t be afraid to explore deeper out of town for more authentic cuisine.

For drinking you’ll be spoiled for choice in San Antonio. The best place to sip on a cocktail and soak up the atmosphere is at one of the infamous sunset cafes of which Cafe Del Mar and Cafe Mambo are the most famous but there’s decent alternatives in the same area if these are looking too busy, as they often do around sunset when most residents of nearby San Antonio hotels descend on Ibiza’s most popular sunset spot to watch the end of the day and toast the start of the night!

Nightlife and clubbing in San Antonio

San Antonio has been made famous by it’s nightlife scene so it’s no surprise you’ll find the livliest bars and some of the most popular super clubs situated right in town.

The place to kick off your night in San Antonio is in the West End district which runs up from the harbour and is essentially 1 big street rammed with cheap cocktail bars churning out commercial house music at 1 million decibles. From around 9pm to 2am this street is the centre if Ibiza’s nightlife with the vast majority of clubbers (whether staying in San Antonio hotels or elsewhere in Ibiza) making their way here for the cheap drinks and roucous atmosphere.

The West End is definitely a love it or hate it kind of place. If it’s not your scene you may be happier drinking in one of the beach front bars which run along San Antonio’s small beach all the way to the marina area. This is still a vibrant part of town with cheap drinks and loud music but you’re more likely to get a seat and have a conversation here.

Whereever you start your night you’ll more than likely finish it in one of San Antonio’s 2 giant superclubs Eden and Es Paradis. Both places are huge infrastructures with capacities in the thousands and attract a top lineup of dj’ing talent from the likes of Radio 1’s Pete Tong and the popular funky house label Hed Kandi. The clubs open at midnight and close at 6 with most people arriving between 1 and 2 am.
